Nutrition Capital superstore flake epoxy floor

The job.

Nutrition Capital is one of New South Wales' leading nutrition retail chains, and this was their new superstore at the West Gosford Riverside Business Centre. Australian Trade Floors was engaged to supply and install a hard-wearing commercial floor across roughly 110sqm that could take constant retail foot traffic and still look the part of a flagship store, with the retailer's logo built into the floor itself as a feature.

The challenge.

This was a live fitout, not an empty shell. We installed the floor around the shopfitters as their work continued, coordinating our stages so the coating could go down and cure without holding up the rest of the trades.

• Working next to an operating dentist and gym meant the smell of the coating chemicals had to be managed carefully so neighbouring businesses weren't affected.
• The custom embedded logo had to be set out accurately and built into the flake system, not simply painted on top, so it becomes part of the floor rather than a sticker that wears off.
• The whole job had a tight three-day window to fit the store's opening schedule.

Our solution.

We prepared the slab through our standard process to give the coating a sound, properly profiled surface to key into: diamond grinding the concrete to open the surface and strip back any laitance and contaminants, cutting in and repairing cracks and joints, checking the slab was clean and dry, then extracting the dust and priming ready for the system to go down. Proper preparation is what decides whether a commercial floor lasts, so it's never the step we rush.

With the slab ready we installed an APC Coatings Ultra Flake system. The base was laid in Pipeline Grey with Granite flake broadcast into the wet coat to full coverage, and the custom logo accents were picked out in Bubblegum Blue flake and embedded into the surface so they sit flush and permanent within the floor rather than painted on top. The whole build was then locked in under a clear protective coat.

Staging the work around the shopfitters and controlling the coating fumes let the neighbouring dentist and gym keep trading while we completed the floor, and the store opened on schedule.

The result.

A seamless, durable commercial floor that reads as a genuine feature of the store. The embedded logo anchors the space and the flake finish handles the traffic a busy retail floor sees every day. Delivered inside the three-day window, around other trades, without disrupting the neighbouring businesses.
